Mitsubishi Chemical Carbon Fiber and Composites (MCCFC) is composed of several companies, but at its core there are two.  In April 2013, two Californian companies, Grafil, a carbon fiber manufacturer in Sacramento and Newport Adhesives and Composites, a prepreg manufacturer in Irvine, were merged to create Mitsubishi Rayon Carbon Fiber and Composites (MRCFAC); then in 2017, we re-branded to MCCFC.  Since our merge, we have made multiple acquisitions within the United States.  In addition to these acquisitions, we have continued to improve and expand our current facility’s capabilities.  As a proudly American based company with a dedicated focus on responsiveness, quality, and customer support, we are working hard to match the growing global and domestic demand for these advanced materials.

Carbon Fiber

The Carbon Fiber Division of Mitsubishi Chemical Carbon Fiber and Composites’ manufacturing plant is a modernized production facility located in Sacramento, California. Mitsubishi Chemical Carbon Fiber and Composites has been producing our high-quality Grafil product line of standard modulus carbon fibers since 1984 in addition to selling Pyrofil and DIALEAD products.

Composite Materials

The composites division of MCCFC was formed by four partners in 1978 under the name Newport Adhesives. With a combined 70 years of work experience in the industry, the group identified a need in commercial aerospace for a more flexible composite materials supplier. The company immediately succeeded as a smaller and more responsive organization within the adhesive and prepreg industry.

By 1981, with product lines expanding, a second company named Newport Composites was formed. Over the following 9 years, both Newport Adhesives and Newport Composites were among Orange County’s 50 fastest growing companies. Mitsubishi Chemical Co. Ltd, one of the world’s leading producers of carbon fiber, acquired Newport Adhesives and Newport Composites in 1990. They integrated and formed a single subsidiary out of the two companies: Newport Adhesives and Composites.

In 2013 Newport Adhesives and Composites and Grafil (a carbon fiber manufacturer in Sacramento, Ca.) were merged to form MRCFAC (re-branded to MCCFC in 2017), a group company of Mitsubishi Chemical Holdings. Now with the strong support of a multi-national organization, the team is continuing to be true to its roots as one of the most responsive and reliable partners within the composites industry.
